About

More than just an orchestra: meet our musicians!

We are around 40 to 50 amateur musicians from Munich — students, apprentices and everyone who did not want to stop playing after school or university.

How it all began

The Accento Orchestra was founded in 2022 by Lukas and Philip, both students in Munich at the time. The aim: to bring together people who share a passion for music — and to pass on the joy they take in it.

There was a rather self-serving reason too: having your own orchestra is the most reliable way of making music together regularly yourself.

What we play for

Music is a language we all understand — whether it is pop, rock or classical. And yet classical concerts are reaching fewer and fewer young listeners.

We want to make classical music appealing to a young audience again: with free admission, with programmes that tell a story, and with musicians on stage who make music as equals.

How we work

We rehearse on Mondays from 7:00 to 10:00 pm at Karlstraße 32, during the semester, plus additional rehearsal days and one rehearsal weekend per semester. Rehearsals are mostly bilingual, in German and English.

A music degree is not a requirement — most of us study something entirely different. If you play an orchestral instrument at an advanced level and want to work towards a major work over the course of a semester, you are in the right place.

More than just an orchestra

Today more than 40 musicians form the active core of the orchestra and bring its spirit to life anew with every project. While the half-yearly rehearsal work is the heart of the orchestra, there is plenty more on offer alongside it.

Whether chamber music, relaxed get-togethers outside rehearsalsor concert outings together — the Accento Orchestra thrives on enthusiastic members and their ideas. In the spirit of: everything is possible, nothing is required!

The association

We are organised as a registered non-profit association. As a self-organised orchestra we depend on many helping hands, above all our board!
