Torbjørn H. Arnesen

Since it was founded, the Accento Orchester München has worked with a succession of different conductors. Changing signatures bring new repertoire and a new rehearsal culture to the orchestra — and give young conductors at the start of their careers an ensemble they can really work with.

Torbjørn H. Arnesen has been the orchestra’s conductor since October 2023. The Norwegian composer and musicologist studied composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich with Professor Moritz Eggert and at the Grieg Academy in Bergen.

During his studies he took part in numerous masterclasses with renowned conductors and composers. On international projects he works with institutions such as the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and Kyoto University of the Arts; his collaborators include prominent musicians such as Sawako Fukuhara and Ermis Theodorakis.

With Accento he has worked on repertoire from Humperdinck to Tchaikovsky. In summer 2026 the programme included the premiere of his own overture to “Death of Sensei”.
